Provost Alex Mackie

Alex Mackie is the Liberal Democrat councillor for the newly formed East Renfrewshire Council ward of Giffnock and Thornliebank.

After the election in May his fellow councillors elected him Provost. Alex has represented Giffnock North for some years, Alex has  served on various committees on East Renfrewshire Council.
 
Alex is a former Chairman and Treasurer of Eastwood (now East Renfrewshire) Liberal Democrats Local Party and has fought both Motherwell and East Kilbride at previous general elections. He is recently retired but was previously an insolvency specialist based in Glasgow.
 
 Alex says :
"East Renfrewshire Council needs Liberal Democrat Representation, to provide improved local services tackling environmental issues and community safety problems. East Renfrewshire is clearly recognised and well respected community it is essential that it is retained for the future.

"The Liberal Democrats have been represented on East Renfrewshire Council since re-organisation in 1995 and have served as part of the Council Administration group throughout that time. As part of the Administration we hope to use the experience gained in the past to ensure the continuation of a completely cost-effective Council providing high quality customer-focused services in the future."

MSP for West of Scotland Ross Finnie

Ross has been a Liberal Democrat “List” Member of the Scottish Parliament for the West of Scotland since the formation of the Parliament in 1999.

Educated at Greenock Academy, Ross subsequently became a Chartered Accountant forming his own company in 1991.

Throughout his adult life Ross has been a member of the Liberal/ Liberal Democrat Party. For many years he was a Councillor on Inverclyde Council before being elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999.

He served as Environment Minister in the two Labour/Liberal Democrat administrations between 1999 – 2007.

He is currently a member of the following committees:

Deputy Convenor of the Health and Sport Committee
Substitute Member of the Finance Committee
